Synology ActiveProtect Boosts Hospital Data Security Modernization

Updated Original source

The St. Nikolaus‑Hospital in Eupen switched to Synology’s ActiveProtect DP7400, cutting licensing fees and achieving a projected 238 % ROI over five years. The new solution delivers a robust 3‑2‑1‑1‑0 backup strategy with immutability, air‑gapping, GDPR compliance, and streamlined management.

Much higher ROI

St. Nikolaus‑Hospital now expects a 238 % increase in ROI over the next five years after adopting the Synology ActiveProtect appliance. Licensing costs have been eliminated, and although the hardware requires an upfront purchase, the investment will be recouped quickly.

3‑2‑1‑1‑0

The hospital now follows a 3‑2‑1‑1‑0 backup strategy: three copies of data, stored on two different media, with at least one off‑site or cloud copy, one immutable copy, and zero‑error verification. Synology’s DP7400 makes this achievable.

Beyond immutability, the solution provides air‑gapping, GDPR compliance, and free Microsoft 365 backups with the DP7400 purchase. The hospital has also established a disaster‑recovery site at St. Vith Hospital.

According to IT staff Pascal de Sélys and Cyriel Bovy, the new system is far easier to manage, modernizing the hospital’s entire data‑protection process for years to come.
